PRK Surgery - Are You a Candidate?
To be eligible for PRK you must be 18 years of age or older and not have had a significant change in your glasses or contact lens prescription for the last twelve (12) months.
Who is Not Eligible?
Certain conditions may interfere with the healing process or cause additional problems, risks or complications, which may require additional care or may make you a questionable candidate for the procedure. Those conditions include, but are not limited to:
- Eye inflammation or infection
- Severely dry eyes
- Corneal disease or scarring
- Degenerative diseases of the cornea
- Uncontrolled diabetes
- Use of certain medications
- Pregnancy and nursing mothers
- Inadequate corneal tissue ie. the tissue may be too thin for surgery
- Certain rheumatological or autoimmune conditions e.g. lupus or rheumatoid arthritis
- Pacemakers
If you have any of these conditions or have been advised you may have any of these conditions, you should discuss them thoroughly with your optometrist and surgeon.
